The CDC website is probably the best source of information about current travel risks. CDC

I went to a county health clinic to get my vaccines. They were relatively cheap, but I had to sit around for about an hour to be waited on. I had to make an appointment ahead of time so that the nurse could look up what places I was going to to make sure I had the right vaccines. I talked about where I was going and what vaccines I would want once I showed up and she made sure it sounded ok.

The vaccines I personally received were:

  • Yellow Fever $95. ( originally thought I was going to South America). This vaccine has the highest risk of being fatal, but the changes are still in the millions. Almost surely worth the risk against a 20% fatal disease.
  • Meningitis $87 (Menactra). Chances of this are slim outside of Africa, but figured I might as well.
  • Typhoid $35 My friend said this disease really sucks. Figured I better it too. There are outbreaks in Asia a lot.
  • Hepatitis A+B (Twinrix) $37 per injection (3 total). Hepatitis A is found on food quite a bit in the developing world. HepB is only transmitted through fluid contact, like HIV. HepA is inconvenient, so good to get a vaccine. You could come into contact with HepB if you need a blood transfusion in another country so best to be prepared.
